Medicine education is the central work of Basic Medicine School, which has laid a solid foundation for the cultivation of different types of medical talents. Currently, The School of Basic Medical Sciences has offered 15 courses to the undergraduates of 5-year and 7-year,the students in Hou Zonglian’s medical experimental classes (8-year) , medical postgraduates and international students from the medical specialty and other subjects related to medicine, including the human anatomy and histology and embryology, microbiology and parasitology, immunology, pathology, pathophysiology, physiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, medical genetics, cell biology, neurobiology, functional experimentation and pharmacology. Except for some new courses, the others are all high-quality curriculum of Shaanxi Province.
Up to now, The School of Basic Medical Sciences has 4 national or provincial excellent teaching teams, including physiology, pharmacology, biochemistry and molecular biology, microbiology and immunology, 1 high-quality curriculum (physiology), 1 national bilingual demonstration course (pharmacology), and 1 excellent public course (physiology), 12 provincial excellent courses, 1 experimental teaching demonstration center of Shaanxi Province. Our teaching teams have won one nation-level teaching award (second prize), and one second prize of Shaanxi provincial teaching award in 2013. As the chief editor or associate editor, the faculty of school has compiled a number of nationally planned textbooks for basic medicine courses, including the physiology, regional anatomy, pharmacology, functional experimentation, organ-system integrated courses and PBL teaching series for clinical medicine. In addition, many teaching patterns such as PBL teaching, MOOC, micro-course and flipped classes have been successfully introduced into the teaching processes.
In the aspect of postgraduate education, The School of Basic Medical Sciences were conferred with the first batch of master’s and doctor’s degree-granting postsecondary by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council in 1979 and 1981 respectively. At present, all secondary disciplines of The School of Basic Medical Sciences are authorized to award master's degree and doctor's degree (including 7 secondary subjects of basic medicine, 5 secondary subjects of biology and 1 secondary subject of pharmacology).
The authorization of the doctor's degree and the postdoctoral mobile station of the first-level disciplines in the basic medicine were obtained in 2000, and subsequently, the authorization of the doctor's degree and the postdoctoral mobile station of the first-level disciplines in biology were obtained in 2007 and 2010 respectively. It was approved to set up the postdoctoral mobile station of the first-level discipline in pharmacy in 2018. In the past five years, 146 doctoral students, 170 master students, and more than 100 postdoctoral students have been cultivated in the Basic Medicine School.
The basic medical specialty was established in 2016, and 30-50 students who were enrolled from all over the country every year. With cultured by an academic system of five-year, the students will be awarded bachelor's degree of medicine when graduation. The aim is to cultivate excellent students with the basic theoretical knowledge and experimental skills of nature, life, and medicine, with the knowledge of the frontier of medical development and the ability of basic medical teaching and scientific research.
